General Information
Laramie and Wyoming are great places to enjoy the outdoors.
UW Outdoor Education rents equipment to the University community and they run the great climbing wall in Half Acre gym at UW.
Mountain Biking
Laramie is a great mountain biking location with a number of highly rated trails just out of town. Peter Thorsnes in Molecular Biology thinks the biking here is better than in many of the famous destinations. See what he has to say on his Laramie Mountain Biking page.

The Snowy Range Ski Area is 30 miles west of Laramie.
Steamboat in Colorado is about a two hour drive from Laramie (we're closer to Steamboat in Laramie than they are in Fort Collins).
Winterpark is a bit under three hours drive from Laramie.
Climbing
Wyoming is a climbers dream. Of course there are the Tetons, and the Wind River Range. For rock climbers, we have pocketed limestone at Wild Iris , Dolomite in Sinks Canyon, and of course world famous off width climbing on beautiful granite at Vedauwoo, just 15 minutes out of Laramie. Fishing
Wyoming is famous for its great fly fishing. There is great fishing on the Laramie Plains Lakes just a few miles out of town. The Laramie River has a nice run of Browns in the fall and is fishable right in town. The Snowy's contain a number of small alpine lakes chock full of Brook Trout. It's also possible to make day trips to world famous spots like the Miracle Mile and Grey Reef on the North Platte. The Encampment River in just on the other side of the Snowy range and is fishable up through a 23 mile long wilderness area. The Green River below Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Northern Utah is four hours drive from Laramie. It's a six hour drive to the Big Horn tailwater fishery below the Yellowtail Dam in Montana. Yellowstone fishing (including the Henry's Fork in Idaho) is also within driving range for weekend trips.
