A Personal Pantagraph

Prognostications, Epiphanies, and Banalities

Gone Fishing

Regular readers of this blog, all two of them, have no doubt noticed a dearth of recent posts. There are several good reasons for this: I’ve been busy, I’ve been lazy, I’ve just been doing other stuff, ok? Like this.

After Spring Break, I got back to Laramie and picked up another class for my teaching load. My department chair’s son was diagnosed with cancer, so my chair took some medical leave to be with his son. One of the other professors picked up the chair duties, and I picked up his teaching load. That is a good enough excuse not to have written for a while.

But there’s more. I was also busy writing papers and grant proposals, critical tasks in the life of a professor. And I traveled some to learn about Ajax programming and Eclipse plugins. And I went to visit my old company in Austin, which is doing very well, thank you.

And now I’m in Beaver Creek, Colorado, part of the Vail Valley for two weeks. We’re here for a strings camp–my daughter plays the violin, and my son just started with the cello. While I’m here I’m busy working, including putting the final touches on a pair of papers I submitted to JAR.

So it’s been a busy summer, but there’s lots to blog about! For starters, I just got an NSF grant, which will let me fund a grad student full-time (or two students half-time) for two years–not to mention my tenure quest. And I’ve just read a couple more Jack McDevitt novels, which were very nice. And of course, there’s the world cup! More about that after Brazil plays its first game!
