Summer

The major goal for the summer will be to gain experience in number theory, cryptography, and computer programming. To do this, we will meet every day in the math seminar room and look at different math problems. We will also spend three weeks learning how to program in the language Scheme. The programming environment DrScheme is very friendly to novice programmers, so don't worry if you have little experience with computers.

Fall

In the fall, cohort members should enroll in the following two courses:

  • COSC 4010-12, Distributed Computing for Cryptographic Applications, MW 3:30-4:45
  • MATH 5590-01, Topics in Information Theory, MW 2:10-3:25

In addition, the cohort will engage in the research activity that comes out of the summer program. This will take the form of a computational experiment.

Spring

During the spring, we will present our results at one of the regional math conferences. This will be an exciting time, the culmination of the cohort's research project!
