The Wyoming Cryptography School Program
The Wyoming Cryptography School is open to students of mathematics and computer science. Since these students come to the program with different backgrounds and goals, there are different ways to participate in the program. The heart of the program consists of three courses:
- COSC 4010: Distributed Computing for Applications in Cryptography
- MATH 4800: Introduction to Cryptography
- MATH 4800-2: Foundations of Cryptography
These courses are available to any student who meets the appropriate requirements, e.g., juniors and seniors in mathematics and computer science. The WCS will also feature many lectures throughout the year by UW faculty and students, possibly as part of the seminar series in algebra and number theory. These lectures are open to everyone.
If you are majoring in mathematics and you are considering cryptography in your future, the WCS will help prepare you for graduate school. We are preparing a sequence of courses to recommend for this, but we are not quite ready with our final recommendation yet. Check back later for information, or talk to Dr. Mueller for specifics.
Additionally, math majors are eligible to join a cohort of students who will interact directly with WCS faculty and perform undergraduate research in mathematics. This is a great opportunity for those of you who are thinking of graduate school in mathematics, even if you are not committed to cryptography. Check it out!
