Free Tools to help "clean" and repair your windows XP systems
- Secunia Personal Software Inspector Scans the computer and tell you which software needs to be patched. Also lists where to get the install software on the vendors website. Note this program has to be installed and then runs only from the account it was installed in (not all users).
- Spybot Search and Destroy Cleans spyware and lots of other stuff too (in advance mode).
- Ad-Aware Cleans spyware. The personal version is free
- Sophos Anti-Rookit A tool to help detect and remove rootkits
- ATF-Cleaner Removes most temp files on a windows system, No install needed. Click on download to find the program. This site also has some programs to fix specific nasty spyware. VundoFix.exe fixes a spyware that also has rootkit pieces.
- CWShredder, removes Cool Web Search and variants
- HijackThis A general hompage hijackers detector and remover. Be very careful with this tool. This site also has tools to remove other spyware.
- LSP-Fix Repairs loss of internet access associated with certains types of software, spyware and winsock (network) jackers.
- Keyfinder Finds the windows key (beta version also show office key), beware that many AntiVirus products think this a virus/spyware
